Bad Guys Get Caught (Book Three in the Janet Maple Series)
Janet Maple and Dennis Walker are aces at catching the bad guys, but an assignment involving an international gangster and a sleazy politician just might have them in over their heads.
With the man of her dreams on her arm and a dream job at one of NYC’s top private agencies, Janet’s life is nearly perfect. It all changes when a high profile case falls into her lap, and Janet finds her competitive streak kicking in, taking risks she shouldn't be taking.
Dennis Walker loves catching the bad guys as much as he loves being in the limelight. Will he be able to share the laurels with his girlfriend who also happens to be his work partner? And will the bad guys get caught?
*Bad Guys Get Caught is book three of the Janet Maple Series, but it can easily be read on its own.*
My Thoughts
From the beginning of the series we are rooting for Janet and Dennis to become a couple, in book one they meet and sparks fly but as coworkers they leave it at that for the most part. However in the second book the two realize that their attraction to each other should not be denied as it is more than just physical but also a mental connection as the two just “click”.
In each book the pair find themselves in investigations where it seems like the “bad guy” may get off scot free until at the last with just one final piece of evidence they are served overdue justice!
Now that Dennis and Janet have taken their relationship to a higher level of intimacy their competitive personalities cause them friction. When their latest case leads the pair to take measures that neither approve of very much to find the necessary evidence to prove that the squeaky clean politician they are investigating is in fact not as he portrays himself and the link between he and the gangster whose establishments he frequents is a bit more than just that of a loyal customer.
Both Dennis and Janet get a little too caught up and do a bit of damage before each of them realize their work is not more important than their deepening relationship, what could have turned into a complete disaster instead turns into triumph and watching it unfold was a lot of fun. Baxter is as usual his adorable self and even Peter Laskin has a shining moment or two! You have to read this last one, the bad guys never knew exactly what upset their nefarious operations!
