Finally after all the buildup from books in the "Night Huntress" series Mencheres takes center stage with his own story, and what a story it turns out to be too! Just like the first read in these new spin-off books written by the author this one was compellingly dark, irresistibly sexy and quite a wonderful pairing of the main characters Mencheres and Kira! Think about it for a minute a 4500 year old Vampire who looks like an elegant young male of mid-twenties and a self sufficient, very no-nonsense human female who does not believe in the supernatural until she is given irrefutable proof when she tries to rescue Mencheres from a ghoul attack one night on her way home!This is another read that being penned by Jeaniene Frost draws you in and does not let you go, it has great appeal for anyone who is already a fan of Cat and Bones books and for those who have not read the "Night Huntress" series it should get you motivated to do so sooner than later!Like everyone else who has read the book have to say that even though in the past Mencheres character was not one of my favorites he has now cemented a place in my heart alongside Bones and Vlad. How could I resist a courtly, very sensual and powerful creature who also had a strong sense of responsibility for the vampires under his care. I also have to give the author a thumbs up for the creation of the strong character that is a perfect foil for Mencheres, Kira.Kira is at times brash and reckless in her interaction not only with Mencheres but the other vampires in the story as well, but her heart is always in the right place as she believes in Mencheres even when he loses faith in himself!All in all another great paranormal romance read, very interesting plot developments that allow the reader to be privy to some more of the inner workings of vampire politics and their governing body the "Law Guardians"and have some fun along the way as the adventure takes Mencheres and Kira from strangers to devoted lovers who would do anything for each other including die if need be!
