Book 2 takes us back into the sometimes dark, always gritty world of Gin Blanco... By this point I feel like Gin has become a new friend, it has been wonderful discovering another author who has become a must read for me... The first book "Spider's Bite" introduced this wonderfully complex character and "Web Of Lies" picks right back up with the action in full swing from the very first page!"Web of Lies" reintroduces us to the supporting cast of characters in a big way. JoJo and her sister Sophia as well as Finn Lane play even more important roles in Gin's life now that her mentor and surrogate father Fletcher Lane is dead... Not only does this family of the heart support Gin but they also give her any help whenever and however she needs it, in effect more than once keeping her alive! This time around Gin is not hunting for trouble, having retired as an Assassin she is now spending all her time and energy at the Pork Pit BBQ restaurant and taking college classes as time permits. Trouble however comes knocking in the persona of one young lady by the name of Violet Fox, the granddaughter of one of Fletcher Lane's former friends. What starts out as a seemingly simple task of helping Violet and her granddad turns into an effort of monumental proportions and almost costs Gin everything, including her life!Once again Gin is an unapologetic heroine whose walk on the dark side of the law is both realistic and at times extremely dangerous as well as violent! The villains in this book are thoroughly deserving of every punishment meted out to them by "The Spider" , Gin may be retired but let me tell you she still has all her old ability to take the bad guys down!My only real regret is her choice of Detective Donovan Caine as her love interest, but I can honestly understand that no one can help who they are attracted to when it happens! The entire book is intense, the dynamics between Gin and all the other characters will keep you reading the plot line well past bed time until you finish completely and all your questions are answered! I am truly excited to read book 3 "Venom" to see what is up for Gin next!I would have given the book a 5 except it had too many repeat phrases that got on my nerves after a couple of times of reading them... Story quality and characters though are a solid 5 rating, if only I could get past that one pesky pet peeve!
