In the blink of an eye. Everyone disappears. GONE.

Except for the young. Teens. Middle schoolers. Toddlers. But not one single adult. No teachers, no cops, no doctors, no parents. Just as suddenly, there are no phones, no internet, no television. No way to get help. And no way to figure out what's happened.

Hunger threatens. Bullies rule. A sinister creature lurks. Animals are mutating. And the teens themselves are changing, developing new talents—unimaginable, dangerous, deadly powers—that grow stronger by the day.

It's a terrifying new world. Sides are being chosen, a fight is shaping up. Townies against rich kids. Bullies against the weak. Powerful against powerless. And time is running out: On your birthday, you disappear just like everyone else...

My Thoughts

Imagine one day that anyone over 14 is gone, imagine that there are no rules for the children who are left, imagine that the technology we use and depend on daily is gone as well, now imagine what it would be like to survive in this new world where might makes right and no one is safe there anymore.

I thought that all of the day to day developments were about on a par with what would actually happen, the sci-fi elements added to the tension as to how totally unstable certain inhabitants of Perdido Beach actually are and the powers some of the children develop actually add a different element as well that keeps one on ones toes as you read.

This book was very long but it read like one of many fewer pages as you truly feel like you are there right along with Sam, Edilio, Quinn, Astrid, Little Pete, Albert, Mary, John and the rest of this diverse group as they try to survive their new reality.

All the way to the final aborted showdown I was hooked, looking forward to continuing the series when rest of books become available to borrow from library.

Vampires are nothing but trouble…
As far as beautiful vampire Sadie Pemberton is concerned, werewolves shouldn't be sticking their noses into New York's supernatural politics. They don't know jack about running a city-not even that hot-as-sin new vampire-werewolf liaison who's just arrived in town.

Werewolves are too sexy for their own good…
The last thing Killian Bane wanted was to end up in New York City playing nice with vampires. Unfortunately, he's on a mission, and when he encounters the sexiest, most stubborn female vamp he's ever met, he's going to have to turn on a little of that wolfish charm...and Sadie's going to learn a thing or two about what it means to have a wild side...

"Totally irresistible...Humphreys is undoubtedly a rising star." -RT Book Reviews, 4 1/2 stars, Top Pick
"This series is wildly addictive, and this is...a five-star book that you do not want to miss." -The Romance Reviews
"A powerful love story that proves that while our past is inescapable, it is the core of our strength." -Sarah MacLean, New York Times bestselling author of No Good Duke Goes Unpunished

My Thoughts

Have not read 2nd book in Dead in the City series nor have I read the 5 books in The Amoveo Legend series from which this came from. However did get a chance to read the 1st book, Tall, Dark and Vampire which was a kindle freebie prior to release of this third installment and it whetted my appetite to continue the adventures of the secondary characters as they appear in their own adventures.

Vampires and Werwolves have long been at odds in almost every movie or book that I have ever watched or read. This focal point to a story adds elements of tension that always get amped up when main characters from the different factions find themselves attracted to each other which is the case with Killian and Sadie.

Adding to the spice of the forbidden nature of this attraction is the fact that Killian as well as Sadie have enemies that would love to see both of them become examples of what happens when rules are broken.

The problem with rules though is that eventually someone comes along and proves that no matter what love will find a way and as always happens in that case those rules are thrown right out the proverbial window!

I liked the fact that we have a story based on a solid world and characters, the twists and turns taken this time throughout the build up of Killian and Sadie's relationship were cunningly contrived as well as great resolution to their being accepted as compatible by members of both the werewolves and vampire societies.

The final end twist was executed well if a bit hurriedly for my taste.

Lizzie McKettrick is coming home for Christmas. And Indian Rock's new schoolteacher has a surprise in store for her family--a special young man, Whitley Carson. He might seem a little too interested in the McKettrick money, but Lizzie's certain Whitley cares for her deep down.

Yet fate has a surprise of its own for Lizzie: Dr. Morgan Shane. When their homebound train is halted by a massive avalanche, injuring and stranding its passengers, the handsome doctor takes charge--with Lizzie by his side.

Despite their growing bond, Lizzie and Morgan know time is running out. With another avalanche looming and the train's food supply dwindling, it's going to be a bleak Christmas Eve. But with faith, hard work and a little extra help from a most unexpected source, they just might find their way home to celebrate a McKettrick family Christmas after all....

My Thoughts

As a longtime fan of author [a:Linda Lael Miller|6223|Linda Lael Miller|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1228666590p2/6223.jpg] and a fan of the McKettrick family saga books, although have only read a short list out of all of them, my pleasure with this heartwarming tale that was Lizzie McKettrick's story was fully realized from start to finish.

Lizzie was a great leading character, a true forward thinking female who used the inner strength gifted to her to help others when she herself was frightened and yet facing each obstacle calmly as it came up while trapped with her fellow travelers.

The best part about stories set at Christmas is the fact you know there will be miraculous events that take place, in this case the rescue and subsequent aftermath that lead to not only an HEA for Lizzie and Morgan that is very sweet and heartwarming as well as things turning out positively for all the characters who were involved in the train wreck.

I look forward to reading more about this fictional family in future.

Tall, Dark, and Vampire

Tall, Dark, and Vampire - Sara Humphreys This reminds me of a couple of my favorite vampire movie franchises, Blade and Underworld. The mythology in this rendering is somewhat the same with a few additions to add uniqueness to it as well as shake up some of the preconceived notions that every vampire oriented PNR is going to follow the same formula down to the last dotted I or crossed T.

I thought that the themes employed in this first book in a new series were fresh, as was the world building and the characters were all very likable and easy to relate to. The only thing that fell short for me was the wrap up, even though it finished this story arc in a say that tied up lots of loose ends it did not have the same natural flow as the rest of the book.

However even though this first book is done am looking forward to reading more about the members of The Coven.

Cowboy Delight

Cowboy Delight - Cheryl Brooks After having read and enjoyed the first full length book [b:Cowboy Heaven|21996397|Cowboy Heaven (Cowboy Heaven, #1)|Cheryl Brooks|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1417823240s/21996397.jpg|41303434] via a digital ARC from Netgalley it was great to find this novella as a free read to celebrate the March 3rd release of this new series.

The story is scorching, the characters are well fleshed out for the amount of pages we are given and the idea of trading security for a life of true love is brilliantly played out by Lauren as she comes to grips with the fact that fiance Frederick for all his wealth cannot hold a candle to the passion cowboy Steve ignites upon their first encounter.

While it is too bad that it takes two timing her fiance to find happiness it also rings true that the family she would have married into would have never accepted the real Lauren, Steve however has no problem with her as he accepts Lauren for herself even after finding out her darkest secret.

A nice little interlude before the main event, glad to have had a chance to enjoy this short in the series.

When unemployed San Francisco reporter Chuck Townsend, 45, and his college dropout son, Justin, take a trip to Mexico in 2016, each hopes to rebuild a relationship after years of estrangement. But their journey takes an unexpected turn when they meet a cruise-ship lecturer who has discovered the secret of time travel.

Within days, Chuck and Justin find themselves in 1900, riding a train to Texas, intent on preventing a distant uncle from being hanged for a crime he did not commit. Their quick trip to Galveston, however, becomes long and complicated when they wrangle with business rivals and fall for two beautiful librarians on the eve of a hurricane that will destroy the city.

Filled with humor, history, romance, and heartbreak, September Sky follows two directionless souls on the adventure of a lifetime as they try to make their peace with the past, find new purposes, and grapple with the knowledge of things to come.

My Thoughts

As much as it engaged me from the beginning this story also brought tears to my eyes on behalf of the characters when certain situations seemed almost hopeless. Especially enjoyed the relationship that evolved between Charles and Justin Townsend, the estranged father and son slowly became close and in time best of friends over the course of their time together.

The pacing, the timing, the flow of each chapter into the next was as usual easy to follow and very much filled with moments that came alive for me as the journey that Chuck and Justin undertook unfolded.

I felt their turmoil as they became enmeshed with the people of 1900 Galveston, relationships were formed that they neither expected nor hoped for prior to their trip. Not only were these relationships unexpected they caused both Chuck and Justin many hours of worry as to how the truth of where and when they both came from would be received once explained.

The worst part about traveling from 2016 to 1900 was the knowledge about the mass destruction and deaths looming over the town of Galveston at the hands of a category 5 Hurricane, a storm that residents never dreamed would cause as much damage and loss of life as it did.

How does one know ahead of time that such a horrendous catastrophe would happen and not be able to avert a lot of the danger by informing authorities and preparing the inhabitants rather than having to keep the knowledge to oneself so as not to drastically alter history?

This was the the true test faced by our intrepid duo of time travelers, one that became even more urgent as the time for them to leave 1900 Galveston counted down. What occurred next ratcheted up the readers tension and left one in no doubt that once again like a magician pulling a rabbit out of his hat this author has created a masterful story that combined all the best elements into one read!

I have to say that as usual am in awe of the depth of description used that brings both the settings and the characters to vivid life, am also happy at the way the book ended as it allows one to find closure and also the hope of new beginnings in books to come.

I am grateful to have been asked to read and share my thoughts on this book by the author, it was intriguing to me because of the main storyline being a Texas setting was both familiar and easy to relate to. My kudos to not only the development of the characters, the connecting plots and all the different elements that made up this story as it was well worth my time as has been true of every book that I have read by John A Heldt thus far.

What Happens At Christmas (Millworth Manor)

What Happens At Christmas (Millworth Manor) - Victoria Alexander After finishing came to the conclusion need to read more from this authors repertoire, she captured me with the humor and the setting as well as the eccentric characters that populate the pages of the book. This may have not been a classical historical romance but it was totally fun and engaging from beginning to end!

The third installment in the mesmerizing series from the irrepressible, #1 NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author Maggie Stiefvater.

There is danger in dreaming. But there is even more danger in waking up.

Blue Sargent has found things. For the first time in her life, she has friends she can trust, a group to which she can belong. The Raven Boys have taken her in as one of their own. Their problems have become hers, and her problems have become theirs.

The trick with found things though, is how easily they can be lost.

Friends can betray.
Mothers can disappear.
Visions can mislead.
Certainties can unravel.

My Thoughts

Slow going on computer but as interesting to read as previous two, even when it seems to meander off into unknown territory it still entertains me. Out of the three this last book is the most unnerving, unsettling and flat out strange read.

Now that the mystery of Cabeswater has been solved the Raven Boys and Blue are doing their utmost once again to find Glendower and also find Blue’s mother Maura.

There is an unexpected death, unexpected revelations concerning Blue, a totally noteworthy change in character for Adam and even Ronan has proven to be more amenable this time around.

As the third book in this series we are shocked, cajoled, bemused and beguiled by events all the way to the drastic ending where we are left with an epilogue that once again changes things for everyone.

What happens next is anyone’s guess, waiting for book 4 for some answers.

Cheryl Brooks, well known for her blazing hot love scenes, presents a smoking new erotic romance series set at a Wyoming ranch and featuring sexy-as-sin cowboys.

When widow Angela McClure decides to let loose and start a secret affair with a younger ranch hand, she inflames rancher Dusty Jackson's long simmering desire. Both men are irresistible - and forbidden - so Angela forms a plan to divert her old-fashioned father's suspicions: flirt with all of "her cowboys.' The new competition makes Circle Bar K ranch hotter than it's ever been before...

My Thoughts

Be aware that this is written for mature adults, be also aware you should be willing to suspend belief in realism and just go with the story and in my opinion also be aware that sometimes having fun with your characters allows the reader to have fun vicariously in a manner that will be safe while still full of thrills along the way.

Angela McClure is not your typical over 40 female lead, she is the daughter and heir to a Wyoming ranch where she lives with her ailing father and a bunkhouse full of cowboys.

Having raised her sons and now having been alone after being widowed 2 years before Angela is basically about as lonely for human contact as she can get, even a handshake can make her day just because it allowed her a brief moment of warmth and connection to another human being.

On her way into town for some supplies she spies a cowboy on the side of the road hitchhiking. While on her way home from town 3 hours later she comes upon the same handsome cowboy, still on foot carrying his saddle and he halfheartedly attempts to thumb a ride. Much to the surprise of Angela as well as the cowboy she stops and asks him to get in to her truck. Finding out that he is on the way to Jackson Hole for the upcoming rodeo she tells him he can ride with her until her ranch turnoff where she will let him out.

As Angela gets to talking with young Troy she finds herself attracted to his masculine good looks, she also realizes that she may have a way in which they can help each other out beyond just the short ride in the truck. Thing is one of her cowboys has recently broken his leg so while Dusty is out of commission the ranch is short a hand, Liam is flat broke and at his own admission grew up doing ranch work so filling in is right up his alley.

Of course where would we be if a ranch hand job were the only reason for taking the sexy young cowboy home?

This is where you need to start ”going with the flow” as the unabashed fantasies playing out in Angela’s head are not only scorching they are full fledged blush worthy descriptions that are not meant to be read by the faint of heart, or someone with any kind of sexual inhibitions.

I thought that this was a great introduction to an author new to me in erotic romance, she took what could have been a very plain cowboy romance and turned it into something both sexy as well as fun as the characters interact in dialogues that are about as naughty as it gets while still providing interesting input to help move the scenes from humdrum to titillating.

If you are looking for something outrageous, in a good way, look no farther as this tale of a lonely widow on a ranch full of single cowboys is intriguing as well as has a twist that bumps it into more serious territory near the end.

Before Bad Ink (Lunch Break SFF, #1)

Before Bad Ink (Lunch Break SFF, #1) - Michelle White Started right before bed so put it down to pick up and finish quickly as at half way point already. Fast hookup with stolen moments of raw sex that indeed warmup one if cold outside!

Talon - Julie Kagawa My Valentines day present was a beautiful hardbound copy of this latest series by one of my favorite authors. It had everything hoped for in a Young Adult novel including some things was not expecting. The idea of dragons living among unsuspecting humans is as fanciful as vampires, werewolves and demons doing so but as a lover of raw fantasy tales this was escapism at it's finest for me!

The premise is now set up, the wait is on to see how Ember, Riley, Garrett, Dante and the other characters interact with each other in book 2 when [b:Rogue|23497851|Rogue (Talon #2)|Julie Kagawa|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1422811982s/23497851.jpg|27251846] is published in fall of 2015.

Personally the anticipation of the next adventure pitting the dragons against the soldiers of St. George as well as the representatives of the Talon organization has my stomach in knots!

In a scarred and brutal future, The United Commonwealth teeters on the brink of all-out civil war. The rebel resistance plots against a government that rules with cruelty and cunning. Gifted student and Testing survivor Cia Vale vows to fight. But she can't do it alone. This is the chance to lead that Cia has trained for - but who will follow? Plunging through layers of danger and deception, Cia must risk the lives of those she loves - and gamble on the loyalty of her lethal classmates.

My Thoughts

For me this was somewhat of a letdown after the passionate intensity of the first two books, to say this third book fell short is too harsh but for most of the read it did not strike the same chord of emotional connection as the previous books had done.

Partly think this was due to the fact this was more of a "thinking" kind of story rather than action oriented, that meant deeper concentration which in turn meant "drier" content to digest.

It was still full of nerve wracking danger for Cia and the others, with the stakes raised even higher and the sacrifices made even more heartbreaking but in the end the final twist was in character for what I expected.

Overwinter - David Wellington As horrific as the circumstances are for these characters there is still a sense of morbid fascination as events unfold that causes one to keep reading to see who survives in the end.

The tale comes full circle in a way that ties together all the different elements of magic, myth and legend in one final climactic ending for Chey.

Frostbite: A Werewolf Tale

Frostbite: A Werewolf Tale - David Wellington The twist that is at the heart of this story sets it apart from other were tales, the fact that things do not turn out quite the way one might expect does the same.

A fast and sometimes brutal read that leaves you a bit unsettled when finished but not in a bad way.
